GET AN ATTITUDE!
There is simply NO good reason why someone you do business with (someone YOU pay good money to) should refuse to become your Excel customer -- at least at their homes (and usually at their businesses, too).
But sometimes they're slow to "get it" and you have to point out to them that YOU are THEIR valuable customer and you expect them to return the favor. Here's how LEE SIMONSON lee@simonson.com  an ED in Lewiston, NY, does it:

"Joe, I think you're going to enjoy doing business with me, as much as I enjoy doing business with you."
And Lee adds: "End of story."

YOUR ATTITUDE & INCOME  [Index] [Exit]

Recently I was assisting a downline with gathering some last-minute customers for her fast start 4 & 5 ($300 to get 7 more long distance customers) She called me and said, " I can't get any body to sign up. They all say no, gotta talk to hubby, gotta find out rates, gotta.....etc. No one will do me a favor of trying 7 cents a minute service.

THEN IT DAWNED ON ME! I told her ...... "repeat after me....'Everyone I ask to be my customer says YES' 'When I ask for a favor everyone says SURE'. I am positive that when I ask a friend for help he is HAPPY to say SURE'. She giggled when she repeated these affirmations, but I KNEW if she was going to stick with this, she HAD to see that SHE ALONE was responsible for her own success! We took a full 5 minutes on these. It worked! She was able to gather the customers. She made $300.00 in about 30 minutes!

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!

Don't waste your time with negative people, either here or in life! You would be surprised how important your attitude is with others. It will be in front of your success, believe me.

Work on it. Love, Carleen wizardwoman

WHAT ARE WE OFFERING  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
Some of my newer Reps are coming back after prospecting, telling me nobody seems interested in something that might make them a little extra money.

What we are offering people goes way beyond what I call "beer & pizza money." We are offering people who are unsatisfied with where they are or where they are going an opportunity to change the course of their lives once and for all. Most everyone you talk to claims to want more out of life than to just get by, but only a few, like myself are willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to change our lives for the better. Think back to what your sponsor said and did that made you want this. What key point or points did he/she make that really turned you on to this? Now realize that most people hang out with people of similar tastes, personalities, etc. and repeat what your sponsor did with you. Make it clear that what you are offering people is more than beer & pizza money. Make it clear that by you even mentioning this to them that you are paying them a compliment. If they don't see that, and they don't see themselves changing their lives, they aren't the right people or it's not the right time for them.

YOU CAN'T SAY THE RIGHT THING TO THE WRONG PERSON OR THE WRONG THING TO THE RIGHT PERSON.

You were the right person for your sponsor, now go and find your right person and don't until you do. For that matter, just don't quit, because if you do, the next person you meet will be Paul O. #2 and I'll find him! See you @ the bank!

PRESSURE FREE PROSPECTING  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
One of the 'lines' I use with people, (particularly with professional people who don't even know they are looking until they SEE it) is, "look, I just want 20 minutes of your time to show this to you, and it is probably not something you are going to be interested in....... BUT....

Excel is a New York Stock Exchange, Nationally Licensed Public Utility taking advantage of global deregulation, they are taking the industry by storm as can be seen from ANY MAJOR magazine AND SOMEONE is going to show it to you sooner or later, I just want that someone to be me <g> And just think, after you see it, you will know what it is all about, and when the next call comes, and it will, trust me, you will be able to say, "thanks but I've already seen the business".

You absolutely NEVER know who's eyes will light up when they see this business! And, after seeing the plan, if they have to think about it I will tell them, look, if you go home tonight and can't sleep, thinking of Excel and people you want to talk to, this business is for you, if you go home and sleep like a baby the whole night thru this business is probably NOT for you. You are planting seeds and seeing what crops up. Some seeds will lay fallow longer than others.

Remember we are just in the sorting business, we are sorting thru people looking for the gems. The American Dream has not always been to work for 40 hours a week for 40 years only to retire on a limited fixed income. Most people today feel like they are well off if they can pay the bills at the end of the month. We are looking for a few who have not lost the ability to dream for a better future.

Talk to 3 people a day about Excel for 5 years
(not sign them up - just TALK- even if only a minute or two) OR
Talk to 5 people a day for 3 years
Plant your seeds for TOTAL FINANCIAL FREEDOM!
AND it can happen a lot quicker if you are on fertile ground!
What are your goals? How many people will you talk to about Excel today?

JUST DO IT   [Index] [Exit]

EXCELGLOBE!!!

Over the past couple weeks I have talked with folks that are having trouble building their business. Ironically enough they all have the same problem as was myself and many other people.

I got into this business over 2 years ago. (Nov 1996) I thought that I would be able to take right off with this thing and go as far as I could as quickly as I could. To my astonishment I stayed an AR for over a year. I didn't make much money (obviously), and watched other people just starting, fly right up the Stairway of Success. These are the fast starters that Pat Hintze talks about that people like me could really screw up. It drove me crazy. I wanted this so bad I could taste it. It wasn't the big bucks I wanted. I figured if I could make a few hundred $$ more then what I was making at work in Excel I would quit work and do Excel full time.

But what was I missing? What was the thing I could change to make my business grow faster? Okay, some of those folks that flew up the stairway sponsored a lot of their friends and had a big family that would support them by becoming their customer. For me, well I had the family so I got the customers. I even got some reps. That's how I became an AR. But as far as having people I could talk to about the business, to get them interested in just taking a look at it, all I had was a few friends. Unfortunately, all of them knew that I had been in other business opportunities, (and had great success... NOT!). I think it was Ronnie Kirkland that said, "You can't hide poverty from a friend." Ain't it the truth. What I ended up doing was bugging the same people over and over, trying to get them to look at it. I figured after seeing it they would join... who wouldn't.

This was the biggest mistake I ever made in my business. If people don't want to look at it or don't want it, they are not ready for it. Some things in life we are not ready for. For me, it was talking to new people. I wasn't ready for that. I felt awkward, off balance. I stumbled, mumbled, slurred my words and felt like an idiot. I almost quit the business.

Then, one day, I was talking to my father and he said that being successful in this business is like everything else. It takes practice. It's like learning to ride a bike WITHOUT training wheels. (Ouch) When I learned to ride a bike I remember that we lived on an Air Force Base and my cousins were visiting. I was about 5. My Mom put me on this bike without training wheels while everyone was standing around watching and she pushed me down the side walk where, not knowing how to stop, turn, or keep balance, I hit the parked car next door directly on the front wheel and flew over the corner of the hood. My front wheel had damaged their wheel cover and I scratch the panel. On top of that my mom made ME apologize! I DID NOT want to associate that experience with what I needed to do in this business to be successful.

But what I have found is the more I practice talking to people the better I get. Just like the bike. But on the bike I could of put training wheels on. It's kind of hard to put training wheels on while we are talking to prospects or customers about the business. The only thing we can do is stay in close contact with our upline, learn from them and others who are successful in this business, and try to do what they do. Talk to as many people as you can and remember what you said to them. What turned them on, what turned them off. Play with it. Treat it as a game and practice. Soon enough you'll be doing things that other people haven't thought of and you'll create something new that works.(When you do let me know, I'll try anything.)

Remember, this industry you are in is not the Communications industry. It's MLM, Networking, Network Marketing, The people business. Like Brian McClure says, you are just choosing Excel to generate the income that flows into your business. There are other businesses out there you could have chosen. Fortunately you chose the BEST!

Success to everyone...

Just remember the secret to success,
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, QUIT!!!

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR REP RETENTION RATE  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
This is SO important - it is all part of the TEAM SPIRIT!

After we sign up a new Rep, I always smile at them and say, "And now for the only really bad news you will get with Excel...I'm your Excel Mom for the rest of your life! Once you are a part of our Excel family...there is no divorce, you're a part of it forever!" That's how we begin, and that's how I interact with them from that day forward.
I'm pleased to tell you our rate of "stick" for our organization is wonderful. Reps, become friends, we work as an Excel family and a working, sharing team. But, it takes something special from George and myself, as sponsors - a commitment to mentor to mirror that life long commitment. If you want to build a life long income, you better be ready to make a life long commitment to your organization. Reps look to us in time of good and bad...and if we are still there...they are still there, because we are a working family. Some of you reading this, are with other MLM's and I am going to share a secret with you...you can make a good life and income anywhere! But, it only works if you stand behind your words and give your mentoring on an long term level. I'm working as a representative for Excel Communications and I'll be here with my Excel family, forever!

DUPLICATING YOURSELF IN OTHERS  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
In this business you are more likely going to get to the top by building others up. Take the attitude that you will assist your successline by helping them build their business, and, in doing so you will build your own. Here's some tips:

•    A big key to building others up is recognizing and complimenting them on their efforts and achievements.

•    People will jump through "hoops of fire" for recognition and you'll find it is a good idea for your successline to get their share of the center stage at meetings and training's.

•    Realize you cannot make anyone successful. You will learn to work with those who will continue to work. How do you pick key people to work with? You don't, they pick themselves.

•    Who is a key person? Someone who brings guests with them to a BP. Look at what people are doing instead of listening to what they are going to do.

• Continue to personally sponsor as the point is the people you know will lead you to people they know!

Until Next Week......... Monza & Michael Cornell

TO ALL REPS WHO SUPPORT THEIR LOCAL MEETINGS!
First I want to thank you all for supporting the team as a whole. With our effort, the meetings WILL grow.  We can build them up to be not only a support system to plug guests and new reps into, but also a group that people want to be a part of.

This is the opportunity of a lifetime to gain total control over your finances and time. All we have to do is share with others that this option is available to each and every one of us who wants it bad enough to work for it. Before we are finished Excel will have several hundred reps in this immediate area and they will either be in your downline or someone else's. This thing is going there with or without any single one of us. It is a fact that there will come a time that people will be calling you up asking you to sponsor them in the business because you are establishing yourself as a leader in Excel right now.

I am going to fall back on something I heard at training one time. "When you watch a baseball game how do you know who is on the team?".......?...... "The team members are the ones who show up for the practice and games" We practice Excel all week and the meetings are our game. You know WE are it in this area! A small group of pioneers with great places to go. We are the Excel spokes people and we have the ability to literally change the course of peoples lives!  Not only the partners you find in this business, but their families, their future generations.

Excel will be written in history for not only being an global industry giant but for redistributing more wealth and creating more millionaires than any company in the history of the world. And another simple fact is, good people with money can do more good than good people with no money. I have seen reps that would not dream of missing a bowling night but make every excuse in the book to miss an Excel meeting. They are the ones who will say, I tried Excel and it doesn't work. (on the other hand they may improve their bowling average, which is great, if that is your goal!)

THIS BUSINESS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
It is just a fact this business is not for everyone. A person not only has to have the eyes to see it, they have to have the heart to seize it. A big enough Why to get them thru the frustrations of being misunderstood. Anyone can but everyone won't do Excel. And that's okay, otherwise who would cook our food at the restaurant and wait on us when we shop!

It is just not up to us to decide who it is for and who it is not for. Those that you think will, won't and those that you think won't, will. Simply get them to give you 20 minutes of their time and let them decide for themselves. "I want to share this awesome company with you, I respect you enough to let you decide for yourself if you want to save money or make money, and after you see it, if you like it fine, and if you don't fine. Does that sound fair enough?" (Don't forget you can always plug in a tape in the VCR and push play. THAT is duplicable!)

If they say no thanks, so often that means No, Not Now. "Great, will you help me out, just give the service a TRY and be my customer?" When you get the form filled out ask them, "do you know anyone who could do what I just did and who you think might like to supplement or replace their income?" Now you have planted a seed with them, and very likely are walking away from a new customer who knows what it means to be your customer, a possible future rep, AND have a few names on referral. REFERRALS are GREAT!

It is sometimes easier to call someone and say, "so and so thought you might be interested in making some money and I'd like to get with you sometime soon for about 20 minutes and show you what we are doing?" ... I don't know, what is it?... "It's an awesome chance to make money with a MAJOR company, the fastest growing company in the fastest growing industry in the world. This is a no-brainer and the compensation plan is really 90% visual, when can we get together?  It will only a few minutes to show you the money.  Then if you are interested I can answer your questions."

The best advice is NOT to overtalk on the phone, most people just get confused and preconceived ideas about what it is. It truly is 90% visual! If people are insistent to know more I will say look, I can take 30 minutes on the phone and confuse you, 20 minutes in person and you will fully understand how they pay us OR I can three way us into a 3 minute recorded message that explains enough for you to know if you want to take a look. If they want the recorded message after it is finished I simply ask them, "Do you want to know more about how we make money?" Great, when can we get together for 20 minutes?

A SKILL TO HELP YOU EXCEL - LISTEN & MAKE IT ABOUT THEM [Index] [Exit]
*************************
It is a simple business but not necessarily always an easy business. The hardest part is peoples misconceptions and close minded attitudes. You don't need or want those people anyway, they may mean well but they don't have a clue! If it is someone you love you can try to slowly and gently open their mind to new ideas, that takes time, so plant your seeds, water them occasionally, let them know you will be there if they ever change their mind and move on.

There are people out there LOOKING FOR YOU!  I PROMISE you this, it gets easier and easier. It's like anything else, practice and you get better. There is really nothing in life we can be great at unless we practice it repeatedly, and are willing to study and learn. A great sportsmen, musician, author, waitress, dentist or fork lift operator, no one, not even those with natural ability, get to the top without practicing and focusing on their goals. We are in the people business, so we must learn people skills.

The one skill that will get you further in this business than any other is the skill to ask questions and listen to the answers. Find out what your prospects fears and dreams are. What they feel would improve their lives. Ask them something like, "How long have you worked here?" "Do you like your job?" "If you had the perfect job what would it be?" "Do you every look for extra ways to make money?" "Would you like to be your own boss?" "Do your kids (or grandkids) talk about going to college, do they have a college fund?" (I once  prospected a very successful chain store owner on a bus in Tahoe who was concerned that his two children had picked out the most expensive colleges in American) or... "Do you have all the TIME you want?" This is especially good to your successful professional! Whatever you ask, LISTEN closely to their answer!

Most of us (myself included) are not skilled at listening. And most people are pleasantly surprised and flattered just to have someone actually listen to what they have to say. AND Chances are they will offer any number of good reasons they might be interested in Excel. "hey you know what, I know something that you might be interested in!... something that COULD GET YOU that (time, money, vacation, new house, whatever it was) Make it about them!  Then SHOW THE PLAN!

It is not always going to be money. I am going to relay a story of what I mean. It may be a bit extreme but you will get the point. You are on a ledge, 30 stories up, there is a blizzard outside, cold, ice and wind. There is a narrow plank across to the next door high rise, a long walk to the other side..... and you are told you will be given $1,000 if you walk the plank. Would you do it? ..... What if they said $10,000?... It is 30 stories up and a very narrow plank and there is a virtual blizzard outside. would you walk the plank? ... $100,000?.......... You might be tempted, but you ask yourself, how will I spend it if I fall and die? .... Then they put a child on the other end of the plank. And tell you, walk the plank or your child dies. Would you do it then? ..............

While some might not do Excel for themselves, they may do it if they see a way to greatly improve their families life. That isn't always money, sometimes it is the chance for QUALITY TIME or the ability to DO things. Never missing a swim meet or school play. Seeing x amount of dollars might not induce action, but seeing themselves buying mom a new house, or taking the family on extended vacations, or donating the time and money to a cause they always wanted to might.

Find out their why and show them how. When you stop and think what a simple thing really, to achieve TOTAL financial independence in 2 to 5 years by duplicating one thing. Finding a handful of people who will be your loyal customer and they not only usually save a bit of money, they get you, someone they can trust, as their communications consultant and find a few people who can duplicate what you just did, get 20 customers FOR LIFE! And if they want fast start bonuses get those 20 customers sometime within the next four months. That works out to getting ONE customer a WEEK! They don't even ask us to be really fast to get fast start money. And stop and think about how many customers you need in most businesses to make a profit. I don't know many businesses where you can get away with just maintaining 20 loyal customers.

Nearly everyone you show this business to will have two questions "What's in it for me?" and "Can I do it?"

The answer is "FREEDOM" and "YES YOU CAN!" And we can show you how:-)

Excel offers us the choice between making a living and having a life.

SIMPLE ACTION - BIG RESULTS  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
We ask all our reps to make at least four calls each week. New reps use their contact list. Old reps use their contact lists OR go out and meet four new people. Just make four calls every week and invite them to a meeting (or whatever process you use).

Consistently making four calls a week (it doesn't matter if they say yes or no) is how you build long-term income in Excel.
Don't just read e-mails or come to the meetings, talk to folks each week.

This guideline has helped many inactive reps feel Excel isn't overwhelming but rather a simple, workable process to follow long-term. Perfection isn't required, just day-to-day building of your LDU, one customer at a time.

George and I have found that our "Excel stars" couldn't be held back from going a million miles an hour if we tried. The rest of our "busy life" reps need and want to establish a consistent pattern of four-call-a-week action.

Francy Saunders, RD Tacoma, WA

**************** follow up story *****************
Jacqueline's home from Canada and takes a turn today. Here she is! ...
Francy's right, simple actions lead to big accomplishments. When we first got started in Excel we bogged down our working time with endless busy-work. We studied about Excel, we read and wrote numerous e-mails with other reps and our downline, we worked and reworked letters to prospects, reps and customers, Joseph and I chatted with each other about Excel and how our downline would grow. We spent HOURS EACH DAY concentrating on Excel.

But what is it that really makes your business grow? Asking someone to take a look! And you'll notice that I didn't mention asking people to take a look until right here because in our third, fourth, fifth and sixth months I don't think we asked but one or two people to actually take a look.

Small oversight, eh? Well, we do catch on sooner or later, and once we attended Regional Training Director School and they brought up the importance of doing that, we realized it was the one thing we didn't spend much time doing. So, back to the drawing board. Asking people to take a look is the one most significant action you can take to build your downline. Sounds almost too easy, doesn't it? Go ahead, be honest with yourself: How many people did you ask to take a look at starting a business with Excel last week?

There are seven days in a week. Even if you just ask one person only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday each week, you'll have cast your line into the sea of opportunity numerous times. Hey, isn't this Wednesday? How lucky for you! THIS is the day to ask one new person to take a look!

NTD NOTES - WHERE WE HAVE BEEN - WHERE WE ARE GOING   [Index] [Exit]
*************************
But first a note: Did you know that MCI has tried to buy Excel several times over the past few years? Well, it's true. And the last time it happened, Kenny had a most interesting conversation with MCI's CEO. "It's a real honor to have someone like you interested in our company," he said, "but you just don't understand us and can't move us where we want to go." During the conversation, the CEO asked Kenny about reps who are making absolutely huge incomes and specifically mentioned "this one guy making a million a month." Then he asked Kenny, "Why do you allow someone to make that much?" And Kenny replied, "THAT is why you will never buy us!"

Dear Excellers,
Here are a few tid-bits from Excel NTD School in Dallas this past weekend. Rest assured our CEO, Mr. Kenny Trout has our best interest in his heart and constantly on his mind, because of the thousands of Reps and families his decisions impact. Kenny in the past had been approached by our major competition about acquiring Excel.

Kenny flat out told them, that he was flattered at the offer but that under no circumstances would he ever think about or ever consider such an act. They also told him that he should cut back or delete the huge bonuses he was paying the Reps. Kenny said, "Thank You for calling but that is the very reason that you could never ever acquire this company. It is my every intention to create more millionaires than any other company in the world." Kenny's actions speak for themselves. When Kenny connected up with Mr. Chas. Sirois, the die was cast so that one day Excel will go from the 600th largest corporation in the world to the Largest Corporation in the world. Excel/Teleglobe's wholesale customers now include the very telecommunications giants that were trying to acquire us years ago, when we started nipping at their market share. Don't ya just luv it? Whata guy we have in Kenny Trout and now a Super Dream Team with Mr. C. Sirois. "Teamwork makes the Dreamwork"

The present, small, American training forms MAY STILL BE USED TO TRAIN CANADIANS and will eventually be replaced by the new larger Canadian form for the USA.

Please excuse the type O's. It is getting late & I'm blurry eyed. I was up this morning at 4 a.m. to catch a plane in Dallas to get back home to Fla. God bless Dallas Based American Airlines. Thanks for nothing Guys. Don't cha all think those guys need Excel, where no one calls in sick.

Sorry, but I did not even scratch the surface of the good things that happened at NTD school under the direction of All around nice guy and Super Trainer, Joe Stout.

Thanks, for listening, Sandy & Steve "Jake" Jakobowski ED/NTD-Top 300 '98

Funny! This says it all...... even your hard core skeptics HAVE to SEE THE PLAN!! You job is not to sell Excel, your job is to SHOW THE PLAN! Excel sells itself! Jody

Wow! What a week! I started coming down with an awful cough Tuesday night before my trip to Canada. I had to get up at 5 a.m. to drive to the ferry boat for an 8 a.m. crossing to Victoria. Hackin' and coughin' all the way.

But, never say die! I managed to keep my sputtering to the times between talking. I did a few presentations, and got great responses. At one of these presentations a woman just happened to stop by for a visit with the friends I was doing the BP for. When she heard this was MLM she said she absolutely wasn't interested, no way, not even a hint.

So my friend said, "We're not asking you to do anything, but Jacqueline just got here and she's going to show us this before she shows our friends tonight, so if you want to stay, you have to listen."

I told the woman that this would be my first run-through with Canadian numbers and the new, improved description of Teleglobe I was using, so despite her wanting to just sit and chat, I really had to do this. So she sort of glumly sat there while I explained it to my friends.

Midway through this she leaned forward (I was half-ignoring her anyway) and tapped one fingernail sharply on the table. "I'm interested now." That was it. Just like that.

Before the end of the presentation this woman who was vehemently against even hearing about it suddenly turned completely around! I finished the presentation and then told her if she wanted to stay for the presentation that night she was welcome to. Instead she said she had to leave to go call a bunch of her friends and invite them to hear it themselves.

You just never know how these things are going to go, do you?

DON'T FORGET TELCO WHEN CALLING CANADA!  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
Greetings Excel Millionaires 2B!

This is an embarrassing admission, but I want to share this in case anyone else has Canadian contacts.

Last month, I looked up a childhood friend to tell him about a meeting in Canada. He lives in Montreal. Since his phone number was just like what you would see here in the U.S., 1+AC+xxx-xxxx, it didn't occur to me that it was an international call and I don't have World Rate One on my telephone.

Today, I get my phone bill and the 40 minute call to Montreal cost $24.00....(gulp!) If I had dialed Telco dial around 10-10-297 first, the call would have only cost $4.00.

For the few of you who might have fouled mental spark plugs like me, please keep this in mind when calling your prospects north of the border! At least the 60 cents per minute cost for this call will pay me commissions and increase Excel's profitability. (smile)

Sincerely Excelling,

BERT TURNER, RD/RTD excelbert@excelonline.com

ps
And don't forget to mention the 1010297 dial around to your customers who only call international occasionally and are not on World Rate One with Excel. The Telco/Excel toll free number to find out what the rates are to any particular country is 1-800-787-3333 You can get the Telco dial around stickers thru Excel Sales Aids. Find out what Telco dial around intralata rates are in your area, it might be a good deal for your Dime Deal customers! Just be sure ask the rate when using the 1010297 dial around and if your customer uses it you get your normal commission!   jody

WHEN SIGNING UP CANADIAN REPS YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS  [Index] [Exit]

This is the reply I got from Dawn Roberts at Excel corporate about my question: how come Canadian Excel businesses are not willable the way they are in the U.S.? [see Canadian Fast Track packet, Rules and Regulations]

In light of her reply, I recommend for those of you who have downlines developing in Canada, is to advise your IRs there [who signed in as an individual] to put ANOTHER name on their MR/AC applications. Spouse, brother, mother, partner, etc.

Then, in the event of the death of the one who is building the Teleglobe-Excel business, their loved one would immediately own the business, not requiring a Will or Probate at all.

If the applications have already been sent in, you can request a transfer form from Sales Aids [after March 1st] for $45 US and change the name on your account from one name to TWO.

In the case of a business or corporation which has become a Canadian MR/AC, transfer upon death is probably already taken care of in the articles of incorporation or partnership agreement of that business.

--forwarding--

Hi Catherine,

Technically, an MLM position can be bequeathed, however in Canada the process is extremely complicated and could be dragged out over a long period of time. If an IR chooses to do this, they will need to have the assistance of Excel Corporate - Dallas when the time comes to transfer it over. This policy was included because the various other MLM organizations in Canada also do the same.

We are still waiting word from legal as to what would happen to a position should it not be stipulated in a will. Our goal is to have the answer for Monday's edition of Excel Talk. If not, I will let you know when I hear something.

Thanks for all you do. Keep on Excel-ling! Dawn

KEEP AN EYE ON THAT BILL! - CUSTOMER CARE  [Index] [Exit]
*************************
Larry Wright, RD ExcelLarry@aol.com  Orlando, FL

[Note: Larry originally wrote this for his customers after a Florida company was accused of "cramming" -- adding unauthorized charges to phone bills.

But even though it's written for customers, it's info every rep should have and know -- and you'll DEFINITELY want to make sure YOUR valuable customers know the score, too. --Rebecca]

As we get a good start on a new and exciting year, it may be time to review a few things to be aware of regarding your phone bill.

1. Cramming. What to watch for.
2. PIC freeze to prevent slamming.
3. Getting a new or changed line on Excel smoothly.
4. How to reduce or eliminate junk mail and telemarketing calls.

1. Watch your phone bills -- and reps, keep your customers informed, too. Excel will never "cram" your bill with unauthorized charges, but that doesn't stop disreputable companies from trying to slip charges into your phone bill.

Always note the logo of each page at the top left corner. Be wary of pages with logos or names besides Excel's and your local phone company BellSouth, Sprint, etc.)

If a company can bill a million people even just one extra dollar, and only 20% catch the bogus charge (most people do not scrutinize their phone bills closely), they still walk away with $800,000 a month. That's bringing the fly-by-night scammers out of the woodwork!

2. Once your service is safely on Excel (a Service Request Form has been submitted and you have received a welcome letter from Excel), call your local phone company and tell them to "PIC freeze" your line with Excel as the carrier. There is no charge for this.

This prevents any other company from switching your service without your specific authorization being given directly to your local phone company. Even signing checks and entering contests will not switch your service (even if the check says so), unless you specifically call the local company yourself and tell them you're switching. In some areas, you can't do this by phone, but will need to write a letter. Call your local company and find out what's necessary.

A PIC freeze will not protect you from "cramming" scams, however.

[Note: Reps, you can assist your customers in placing PIC freezes but you CANNOT do it FOR
them. Try a three-way call to your customer's local company with the customer on the line.
But do not identify yourself to the local company as an Excel rep; we are not allowed
to do that. Instead, you are simply a friend helping a friend with the PIC freeze.]

3. Another tip: If you are moving, changing your phone number or adding a new number, when the local phone company asks who you want for a long-distance carrier, DON'T choose Excel!

That's right, DO NOT choose Excel.

Doing so orally before we submit an Excel Customer Service Request Form (SRF) to Excel may confuse the local phone company's switching system and you may end up being put with a carrier other than Excel and being charged higher, non-discounted rates. Just tell the local service person to put your new line on (ugh!) AT&T, MCI or Sprint temporarily for now, then immediately
get a new Excel SRF signed and mailed in. (This time at the top you'll check "Existing Customer" instead of "New Customer.")

4. Are you getting too much junk mail in your mailbox? Want to cut down on telemarketing calls, not only from long-distance companies, but other companies, too? Just download the "Get 'Em Off the Lists" postcards on the "Free Tools" page at the SuccessLine website.

These seven cards are pre-addressed to the "Big Three" phone companies (you know who they are), the three major credit reporting firms (they're selling your name and info to everyone!), and the Direct Marketing Association. Believe it or not, most reputable marketers will bump their marketing lists against these DMA lists and remove your name if you have requested it.

It's free. It'll take a few weeks to notice, and it won't get rid of them all, but it helps! (And you'll still get the catalogs and other mail you DO want to receive from the companies you do business with.)

[Note: Only REPS can download these postcards, but once you do that just print them out and provide them to YOUR customers. (Spring for the stamp, too!)] $20 cent stamp works. Go to SuccessLine Resources: http://www.gis.net/~success1   put some card stock in your printer and you can print out four cards per card stock. Just flip the card stock over to get the other side of the postcard on the back.

Got questions? Or need help with a phone bill? Contact your Excel rep for help. or Excel Customer Service 1-800-875-9235 Reps can't call Excel Customer Service or transact any business FOR you, but they can expedite things by calling WITH you (three-way) if necessary and helping resolve an issue, maybe with just the right buzzword to make it happen. Use us! That's why they call us reps! ;-)

THEY'RE RELENTLESS. IRRITATING. And as seemingly irrelevant as the rest of the television clatter.
But chances are, one or more of these commercial teasers has slithered its way into your gray matter. Maybe it was 10-10-321. Or 10-10-345. Or 10-10-811. Or 10-10-297. There are, in fact, more than a dozen of these "dial around" phone services being advertised today, each of which promises to save you scads of money on your long-distance calls. And, yes--no surprise--there's almost always a catch

Here's a few quotes from the article:
"........you can't do better than the one-rate plan from Excel......"

".......making Excel the largest competitor to the Big 3............"

Hey guys, every business is going to have some competition! Don't know many you can get into that don't..... but it is sure neat to be with a company referred to as the 'best' and this author doesn't even know about Simply 7 cents!    jody

Canada's newest long-distance competitor will launch next month through a national network of Amway Corp.-style representatives who recruit customers among family and friends.

Excel Telecommunications Canada Inc., the product of a June merger between Dallas-based Excel Communications Inc. and Montreal-based Teleglobe Canada, is bringing its U.S. recruitment model northward to sell domestic and international long-distance service to residential customers.

Canada's Teleglobe Targets Europe After Excel Merger   [Index] [Exit]

Tuesday February 9 12:24 PM ET

By Robert Melnbardis
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/headlines/tc/story.html?s=v/nm/19990209/tc/teleglobe_2.html

MONTREAL (Reuters) - Three months into its $7-billion merger with U.S. long-distance telephone concern Excel Communications Inc., Canada's Teleglobe Inc. (NYSE:TGO - news) is preparing to tackle Europe's key telecommunications markets.

Montreal-based Teleglobe is already the world's third-largest carrier of international voice traffic, with direct links via a vast web of ocean-floor cables and satellites to 160 countries. The company has licenses to resell facilities-based telecom services in 23 countries.

The union in November with Dallas-based Excel made Teleglobe the fourth-largest long distance call provider in the United States and is transforming it from a pure wholesaler into a retailer of telecom services.

Teleglobe's foray into European retail telecom services will likely begin with Germany in late 1999 or early 2000, Chairman and Chief Executive Charles Sirois told Reuters in a recent interview. That is when the company will begin introducing Europeans to Excel's ``network marketing'' sales technique for telephone services. The game plan -- to get a thin but rich slice of the European market that rivals the U.S. market share of MCI WorldCom Inc. (Nasdaq:WCOM - news), the number-two long distance phone company in the U.S.

``If I go get five percent of the markets in all the G7 countries, I have an operation that is practically the size of MCI in the United States. It's enormous and it's less tiring,'' Sirois, 44, said in his downtown Montreal office.
Sirois said he is ``surfing'' on the deregulation of the telephone sectors in the G7 countries - the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Britain. Initially, that means reselling long-distance telecom services formerly monopolized by local companies.

Bunting Warburg Inc. estimates the long distance market in the G7, excluding the United States, at some $32 billion. A 5 percent slice of that is worth $1.6 billion.

``Those are the largest telecom markets in the world. The question is how do you go and get that,'' said Bunting Warburg analyst John Wilson.  [end of excerpt]

We could help them answer that question couldn't we!  The ironic thing is that by the time many of the "analysts get it, we will already be #1, global giant!  And they will probably be saying, "how did that happen?"

Just One more blue form, one more pink form, between you and financial freedom!
